I’m months late in posting, so I’m going with the better late than never idea.
My friend June had checked out Lake Julian and she was game to show me what she found. Looks like a neat place especially if you happen to catch a skull rowing race. I didn’t see anyone on the water but I did hear, then spot a Piliated woodpecker. The railroad trestle is neat too. Although last time June was there they told her it was nice to walk out on it. She didn’t and was grateful when a train when over it while she was still there.
I’ve been to the WNC Nature Center about four times. I have very mixed feelings about zoos. I like that I get to see the animals I would never get see but it really gets to me when the animals don’t have enough room or pace the same space over and over. I recently read in Outdoor Photographer you can verify a zoo. Not many make me feel like an animal is better off in a zoo than roaming in the wild. The NC Zoo in Asheboro and the Nashville Tennessee Zoos are the best I’ve seen. We went to this one to see the new red pandas. I hope the one was just sleepy sitting in the corner, and the other one did pace following the same route over and over. The WNC Nature Center did have to close because of wild bear in the area.
June is also the friend who has offered me her guest pass to Biltmore Estates I think at least 3x. I now feel like I’ve been almost everything there is to see at Biltmore. I like that she offered the pass and then took the time to go all over the grounds to show me places she’d found in the past. There were so many baby lambs this time. One little guy just kept hollering for mama but mama must have needed a break. :0
