Tyler and Trinity

My guys. Heart and Hydration.

In this two-part post, I’ll talk about my boy first. Here’s what is new with Tyler.

Camera club print competition and numbers theme

I didn’t make the time to choose, purchase, and assemble any prints for this year’s competition. I spent over $70 last year getting stuff for it and even though I have some of the matting stuff now, with all of our other huge expenses going on now, I couldn’t justify spending any more. I wonder if they’ll have a monetary prize for the winners this year? I mean over the last few years the yearly fee has gone up 75% and the membership is the highest I’ve ever seen it. There used to be a one and I hope this year’s winners get something for their efforts.

Most of my personal photos live on my computer and are just shared online just for fun unless of course, I’ve shot a photo for a book cover or product for a client. Here is Tyler “helping” me put the dice in a row (over and over).

Balance, Symmetry, the forgotten pics topped off with a challenge

P1360713-sm

I had all sorts of ideas for CCoH monthly critique theme of balance and symmetry for April. I was going to do a thumbprint. I talked to my best friend about asking her teenage twins if they’d let me photograph them which is totally outside my area. I had it in mind when I went with a friend to shoot at Biltmore. I took one of Tyler with his “broken leg” pose,  a set up a marble shot, then I let the deadline go by without entering anything.

I didn’t want to go see what new naming rules the club made and change my Lightroom export profile settings. I didn’t really want the pictures of Tyler critiqued because I just couldn’t take the critiquer saying anything negative about my boy right now – no matter how constructive. Plus I just didn’t really want to share something so personal and close to my heart just yet even if I originally shot some for this theme.

Tylers recent clean bill of health isn’t accurate.

The end of February I took Tyler & Trinity in just for their yearly appointment before my shoulder surgery. Both came away with a clean bill of health including senior blood work requested for 10 year old cats.  Trinity died completely unexpected 5 days later.

This weekend my awesome cousin who is a veterinarian was in town. I asked if she’d please take a quick look at Tyler. She spent time listening to his heart in 5 places. I thought the quiet of home when he wasn’t stressed would be a better time to listen than when he’s freaked from being at the vet. When he was calm she didn’t hear anything, but when his heart sped up some, she did. I learned something I’ve never even thought about. At her practice in Raleigh, they put in soundproof doors at her clinic for reasons just like this so the doctors can hear better without surrounding noise.

She said at 10 years old she would’ve run a urinalysis and the IDEXX package with SDMA. She said when bloodwork is sent it out to IDEXX  it cost less for the owner than doing it in-house. She said the SDMA is a more reliable indicator of kidney function than creatinine and it is always part of the blood panel package she orders in seniors and that Tyler is overweight. She mentioned that with the BNP test my local vet recommended running on Tyler after Trinity passed, that the studies were not primarily on Ragdolls and that with most BNP test results they are followed by an echo anyway.

The most shocking thing is SHE HEARD A STRONG LEVEL TWO HEART MURMUR.
