Compassion Child

Happy 9th birthday to Sofia

Sofia dressSo this sponsorship thing has not really gone like I’d imagined it would. In the almost 2 years since we’ve sponsored Sofia, we have received 2 or 3 fill in the blank letters from her.  “My favorite color is brown” kind of thing.  I feel I don’t really know her at all and I’m not sure she gets the individual gifts we’ve sent for her in the past. So this year we just did the extra monetary birthday gift and will say an extra prayer for her and her family today on her birthday.  I guess I kind of hoped for a relationship of some kind.  I hope she knows we think of her often and really does get the letters and gifts.

Maybe it is because she is young or maybe it is because she lives in such a remote area, but we’ll keep sponsoring as long as we are able and will keep her in our prayers.

Do you sponsor a child thru Compassion Child? What is your experience?

Mother’s Day when your children have fur

I am lucky to blessed to have a mom that always encouraged me in my endeavors – except maybe my early teen years – she probably wanted to send me away for those. Actually both my parents supported me but my dad passed away when I was 32. I loved my mom’s mom too. Grandma was a special lady and I wish I would’ve spent more time asking her about her heritage and past when she was still with us. Continue reading

Sofia turns 8!

Sofia dressWe have received two letters from Sofia. In the latest one from September, she told us she is learning to wash her hands, brush her teeth and shower each day. All things we take for granted here.

She said they are justifying themselves for the entrance to the jungle. I asked what that was but haven’t heard back yet. There is such a language, age and culture difference on top of the fact that we’re not great with kids.

They are doing balloon games and sports. I wonder if Ecuador celebrates anything like our Thanksgiving or Christmas. Continue reading

Enough love to go around.

20170819_153534-smWith all affected by Hurricane Harvey and Irma building, I’m well aware of those who feel there are enough needs right here at home- we are all so blessed simply living in the US. I pretty sure even if we only give of our time and prayers, that we can show love more than just those here at home.

We’ve only received the one fill-in-the-blank letter from Sofia but we did get an updated photo. I’d love to see a smile on that beautiful face! #CompassionChild

Say a prayer for her since her sponsor knows more about cats than kids, and really struggles with what you say to a 7 year old, much less one who lives in Equador.

She does like art and drawing so at least we have that in common.

Our church members at Biltmore Baptist sponsored 675 children on Mother’s Day. I didn’t pick up different cards and read them, I picked up one off by itself. Now hubby would’ve probably picked a boy, but since he is basically providing the financial part and I’m doing the letter writing I think writing to a girl will be easier.  I think she’s cute and I’d love to see a smile on that face some day.
