Do you hear banjos?

Pass Max Patch, taking a right at Rattlesnake Gap, in Cherokee National Forest and bouncing down the narrow 4WD necessary road/trail to Wolf Creek Falls was one of the toughest roads we’ve ever taken to a waterfall. 

If you want Roan Mountain basically to yourself- go early and in the rain.

I’ve now been to Roan Mountain three times, to the gardens and Jane’s Bald twice, Round Bald and Grassy Ridge once. We walked the Roan High Bluff at Cloudland Trail once too. It’s been devilishly hot, in the 90s here lately to do much outdoors. We worked in the yard on Saturday and I ended up dehydrated and exhausted with a splitting headache by dinner time. I wanted to go up in elevation enough it was cooler.

Maybe the 3rd time will be the charm

When I was in Little Switzerland with the camera club we were told twice that the rhododendrons were blooming on Roan Mountain. I’ve always wanted to see that so Judy and I took off (the long route per my GPS) but we were too early at the end of June.

I told my hubby I wanted to go back mid-July. Well his back has been extra horrible this year and then he got a cold that just wouldn’t go away then I went thru a few days of extreme dizziness for no reason. Then between those things and the rain when we did go on the first day of summer- we were too late and the rhododendron garden was past peak.
