We had a low turn out again this year for the walk I led in Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk, but it was a nice day, even if it didn’t feel at all like October. Thank you to those of you who participated. Continue reading

Do you hear banjos?
Pass Max Patch, taking a right at Rattlesnake Gap, in Cherokee National Forest and bouncing down the narrow 4WD necessary road/trail to Wolf Creek Falls was one of the toughest roads we’ve ever taken to a waterfall. Continue reading
Shape or form plus #WWPW2018
As covered up as I am, I did what I said I wasn’t going to do, and took the time to go shoot for CCoH’s “Gimme your best shot” theme this month, which was shape or form. I went back thru the newsletters to see if they elaborated on that a bit more, but didn’t see anything, so I just went with I thought qualified. Here are the three I sent.
Photogs sign-ups are open for the Oct. 6th #WWPW2018
Find a walk near you. Sign up (limit 50 for each walk), mark your calendars and show up October 6th for Scott Kelby’s 11th WWPW http://worldwidephotowalk.com/locations/
WWPW2017BentCreekNC & Asheville NC
I led a walk at the NC Arboretum in Bent Creek, NC this year, which makes the 4th one I’ve led. It was Scott Kelby’s 10th World Wide Photo Walk. I started in 2010 and have been to 12 now.
Until this year you could sign up for more than one walk in your area as long as the walk wasn’t full and you were taking a spot from someone else that was only walking in one. I didn’t read anywhere that had changed but several walkers told me they could not sign up for more than one. Thankfully a few showed up to walk anyway even though not signing up, means they can only enter the contest on the walk they did sign up for or share on the for fun Flickr page.
This year Mike and I talked and separated our walks a little so walkers had time to do both if they chose.
Here are a few of my pics from my walk this year, and a few from Mike’s in Asheville. https://www.flickr.com/gp/kiminwnc/7H86es
If you’ve seen what I’ve been shooting for awhile you can tell I don’t typically photograph people. While on Mike’s walk I (asked permission) and photographed Tony Prince as he worked on a glass hummingbird. To my surprise, he liked it to enough to make it his profile picture on Facebook for a bit. It was neat to watch him work.
Thank you to those of you who came out and spent the day and especially those of you who gave to support the orphanage in Kenya. Several of you got up pretty early to travel as far as you did and I thank you. Also thank you to Tony Prince for letting me photograph your glass work.
Now, if you registered to walk you can enter their contest. You enter on Kelby’s World Wide Photo Walk page on the walk you registered to walk at. Here is the link to mine http://worldwidephotowalk.com/walk/nc-arboretum/. Details can be found on their site under FAQ

I think it’s neat to see what was happening around the world on 10/7/17. I haven’t found where you see all the shared photos in one place yet this year.
#WWPW2017 One month to go… sign up and share today.
Sign ups begin today
10th annual World Wide Photo Walk or #WWPW2017 on Saturday, Oct 7th.
This is world wide – hence the name- all are welcome regardless of skill level. Up to 50 per walk and it’s free, but you have to sign up. It’s true they take donations and proceeds from shirt sales for an orphanage in Kenya. You can enter a photo to win prizes but you can also just go to shoot and share with like minded photographers

I’m leading a walk again this year at the NC arboretum and there are a few more in the area too – one is timed so you can attend both if you sign up for both.

So I went what seems like forever without taking photos for fun while we worked on the house. I did play hooky when the HCC went to TEIC.
Since we’ve moved in I’ve been to Morganton for a cover shoot at Brown Mountain and stopped to see Lineville Falls, and we saw Hawksbill (BW pic below) and Table Rock from Wisemans Overlook- although I’m not sure how wise it was on that pothole filled road. I really wanted to get to the bottom of Lineville Falls, partly because I want to see it from the bottom, and in part because I think it’d make a nice cover in the same book series. We were on the wrong side of the water and running out of time so I’ll just have to go back. After hearing the details of how you get to the bottom we were not really dressed in all out hiking gear either.
