I wonder if this is true for cats also?
We lost Trinity unexpectedly and her brother Tyler has a level 2 heart murmur that (finally) gets an echocardiogram in the next few weeks. Both have been fed wet grain free and dry food but their dry is “Chicken and Peas Entree Grain Free”.
I’m so sorry about the loss of your Trinity, KiM. I sure hope Tyler’s condition is manageable. This is concerning. I don’t know if cats would be affected but my cat has some skin allergies and has to be on special diet food which includes green peas. She’s been fine so far but she does have a checkup coming next month.

For me, losing her without her being old or sick is so much harder to accept and it may not have been her heart. I will be glad to know what the cause of Tyler’s murmur is and best case scenario it doesn’t need anything, second best is it is treatable with medicine. Living in a small town has it’s disadvantages when a specialist is needed. I think I will look into finding him another grain free food that if it does have peas as an ingredient, they are at least farther down the list. Better safe than sorry and it may be years before they even decide if they are even a factor in dogs. I do grain free for skin and itchiness issues. I just picked up a new bag this week but at least when I pick something new I can transition him slowly. Both of my babies were given a clean bill of health at their March annual check up.
